Reflection
During the course of this class, I’ve learned better how to effectively research topics for paper assignments. Prior to this course, I had general knowledge on it, however during my time in this I figured out how to navigate websites and other tools such as Google Scholar.
My time researching my selected topic and person opened me up to a whole new world of information that I was previously oblivious to. While the topics I researched were morbid (Firearm violence), I learned about the methods that have been implemented to combat the violence, and different proposed legislation that could help in the fight against firearm violence. The legislation itself being one of the key parts to this topic that really stood out to me, especially considering the benefits (or lack thereof) that come from them.
My favorite essay that I wrote would definitely be my reflective essay. I had picked Alfred Hitchcock and during the essay I was given the chance to research him more. The information I learned about him definitely changed my thoughts on him as a person, but all together he had quite an interesting life. This gave me a “second set of eyes” so to speak when it came to Hitchcock’s films, seeing past the initial framing of his films to see the deeper meaning, the inspirations behind it all.
It was made clear to me through my essays that I do have slight issues with it, having to resubmit both of my project papers twice to remove any mistakes that I had with them. It appears that I have issues with my citations, both in text and on my references page, however with work I believe I was able to overcome it to make my projects in the future much better. I have also noticed that I have issues with the flow of my paper, along with small grammatical mistakes that I have been sure to review and double check. A major causation of issues comes from the fact that I frequently get mixed up and damage the alignment of my essays, putting my thesis statement in the wrong spots which contributes to the issue. However, with assistance from my workshops for the past two projects, I believe that I have been able to overcome the issue.
Through this class, I personally believe that I have been able to elevate my writing skills to a higher standard than they were before, and I know with more work I will be capable of extending them even further. This class has given me the chance to really expand my knowledge, and I believe that it has been reflected in my daily life. I’ve had to write essays in my personal life and those who have read them have stated my improvement has been noticeable to them. I have even been able to utilize the skills learned from this class on applications and personal writing assignments.
This class has helped teach me how to be a better writer, how to do better research, and how to be a better student altogether. I’ve learned through Composition 2 to have confidence in my writing, and that it isn’t too hard to write papers or essays, and on top of everything else? It has helped me overcome my anxiety when it comes to my assignments.
